The Importance of Instilling Discipline and Responsibility from an Early Age among Children at Mulia Peduli Bangsa Foundation

Objective – This study aims to analyze the importance of instilling the values of discipline and responsibility from an early age among children at the Mulia Peduli Bangsa Foundation and to identify the factors influencing the effectiveness of promoting these values. Method – This study employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. The participants consisted of children aged 4–6 years, caregivers, and foundation administrators. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed using an interactive thematic analysis technique. Results – The findings indicate that the cultivation of discipline and responsibility through daily routines, habituation, and caregivers’ role modeling positively influences children's behavior. The children demonstrated improved compliance with simple rules, greater ability to complete assigned tasks, and a stronger sense of responsibility toward their environment. Nevertheless, several challenges were identified, including inconsistent rule enforcement, diverse family backgrounds, and limited institutional resources. Conclusion – The internalization of discipline and responsibility from an early age is essential as a foundation for children's character development. Strong support from caregivers, a conducive environment, and active parental involvement are critical to the successful implementation of these values. Therefore, this study recommends the development of structured and sustainable character education programs at the foundation to foster children's holistic character development.
